Introduction

Srinivasa Ramanujan , Indian mathematician  is remembered on 22 December  each year for his extraordinary contribution in the field of mathematics .

He was born in 22nd December 1887 in Erode village of madras in Brahman poor familyof south india  .

On 26 February  2012, the former Prime Minister Of India Dr Manmohan Singh declared 22nd December as National Mathematics Day at Madras University during the celebration of 125th  birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan .

Not only this, Indian postal stamp picturing  Ramanujan was dedicated to National Mathematics Day by the then Indian Prime Minister in 2012.

Numerous educational events relating to mathematics are organized on 22 December every year in educational institutions throughout the country to mark birth anniversary of this mathematical genius.

He was one of great mathematicians in India in the manner that without any big schooling or higher qualifications at the young age of 15 years old .

Therefore, In order to enlighten his memorial and great  contributions in mathematics ,Ramanujaan Math Park has been established in 2017 at Kuppm place in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh.

Contribution in the Field Of Mathematics

  • Srinivsa Ramanujan had done a number of mathematical analysis for unique formulae. At the age of 16 ,a book titled  "A Synopsis Foe Elementary Results In Pure And Applied Mathematics" found in the University Of Madras in his brief period brought a great change in the mind for Srinivasa to work for mathematics in depth .
  • He has also proved with his remarkable discoveries in the field of mathematics in front of the world intellectual community that India is the universe of knowledge.
  • Srinivasa Ramanujan discovered mathematical theories such as infinite series, the theory of divergent series, elliptical series, zeta function, hyper-geometric series. The  legendary Indian mathematician has crowned India with its heritage intellectual power at the age of 32 years old around the world.
  • He published papers relating to the discoveries of a number of mathematical formulae in the Journal of Indian Mathematical Society in 1911.
  • He has also been known for The Ramanujan Summation in 1900 which is an unfamiliar series and claimed that if you add all natural numbers i.e. 1,2,3,4,and so on up to infinity ,then you will find that it is equal to -1/12.
  • Even this summation has brought a great impact and change in the area of general physics.
  • His brilliance in finding out a number of mathematical theorems had been recognized by Prof. G H Hardy British mathematician of The Trinity College, Cambridge  .
  • He graduated from Cambridge with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After submitting his research dissertation on highly composite numbers, he was also awarded with doctorate degree for his unique contribution in mathematics.
  • The Hardy–Ramanujan Number i.e. 1729 was found as a magic number which can be expressed as the sum of two different cubes in two different ways .

                             1729 =   13+12=  93+103

  • He also gave the following algebraic expression:

        If a+b+c=0  then 2(ab+bc+ca)4=a4(b-c)4+b4(c-a)4+c4(a-b)4

  • As His papers on various mathematical analysis were published in English and European Journals ,he was elected to The Royal Society Of London in 1918 at the age of 31 years old .
  • He independently completed nearly 3900 result relating to identities and equations during his short life span.  after raising the name of India in the world by his tremendous contribution in the field of mathematics ,he  died due to tuberculosis in 1920 .

What Teachings can be gained From Shri Ramanujans Contribution?

  • It is very essential to learn mathematics at school and college because every moment of ours life requires the elementary knowledge of mathematics.
  • It teaches us how to be disciplined in all respects thought life. For example, one can easily calculate how much food, calorie and fats should be taken to keep healthy and fit .
  • The beauty of nature can be effectively understood by the use of mathematics ,because each part of nature is based on the mathematical operations
  •  Almost all subjects of various fields utilize the knowledge of mathematics. There is no profession in the world that does not use mathematical values.
  • Mathematics increases creative thinking, logical thinking ,analytic thinking in order to solve difficult problem of life.
  • Mathematics is a subject of regular and consistent practice for acquiring absolute knowledge.
  • Teachers of mathematics must inculcate interest among students by posing practical problems.
  • Mathematics develops rational thoughts in our minds in order to lead a simpler and easier life.
  • An activity oriented curriculum of mathematics is proved to be very helpful in effective teaching and learning in all stages of education .
  • Those students who understand and acquire the basic knowledge of mathematics can learn other subjects of various streams easily.
  • The development of clear concept in mathematics along with activities  right from the primary classes must be emphasized among children to enhance their curiosity in the subject.
  • The knowledge of this indispensable subject helps the person to manage time for each life activities . Any individual  can manage finance ,house budget, bank saving and secure oneself from extravagance.

Conclusion

In summing up, real tribute to Srinivasa Ramanujan on 22nd December every year will be proved authentic only when every academician will serve the humanity with right attitude by using mathematics and impart its knowledge to a greater extent in order to lead a better life for social development .
